Default '74 guys... speedo cable question

What's the best procedure for replacing the speedo cable on a '74? Looks like a pita getting behind the gauge.

Is there a big differnce between 74 vs. 75? Because I just replaced the cable on my 75 and it wasn't that bad.

If you fit your hand up and feel the end where the cable snaps into the back of the speedo you can pull down on the clip and slide the cable out. Now if you have a small tool with an 'L' like punch on the end it might help to unsnap the clip and if you can have someone pull on the cable gently from inside the eng compartment you will be way a head in the game. The cable snaps in pretty easy once guide into the speedo slot/snap area.

Pulled my speedo-cable on my 76 to lube it. I thought it was going to be a pain but it was not bad at all. I believe all I did was remove the little cover under the steering column and removed the air duct. I reached up and unclipped the housing from the gauge.

My 76 wasn't as bad as it looked either. Squeeze your hand in there and you'll get it. (if not different then my 76).

Good Luck,

My buddy with the 74 was whining about nothing... it took me 10 minutes.
