Default 1982 transmission question

The transmission on my '82 broke a couple of weeks ago. I took the car to my usual mechanic last week to have a reman unit installed, which they got from a supplier they said they had gotten engines from before, but this was their first reman tranny from the supplier. (The unit alone was almost $1,600, with 2-year warranty.) When I got the car back, I drove it for one day before the gears weren't shifting properly (it took a long time to shift into second gear, and fourth wouldn't kick in until I got past 45 mph), and finally the speedometer stopped dead and the car wouldn't shift out of first gear. The car's back in the shop today, and they said they were contacting the supplier about what to do next. Obviously the shop is going to take care of this, but my question is this: Is it worth it to trust a second tranny from this supplier or repairs on the current one, or should I have them take it out, give me my money back and seek out another shop?

Sounds to me like they did not set up you TV cable properly and fried the trans.

Thanks for the reply! BTW, does that sound like too much to pay for a reman tranny?

I can't recall exactly HOW BIG my discount was a few years ago (I've known the parts-man for 30+ years), but I got a GM replacement tranny for my '91 K1500 4 years ago, with converter & warranty, for $1250...

Look around; you might find a better deal...

Sorry I can't help further
