Default twin turbo set up

so since im dropping alot of money into my 1981 corvette i figured i would put in a twin turbo custom system. me and my friend are going to do this, but we wondered how we would run a turbo system off of a carb engine because we know only how to do them on fuel injected engines. i am going to keep the stock set up and only run about 7 or 8 psi per turbo. thanks

you do know that 7-8psi per turbo will still only be 7-8 psi total right?

My "other car" is a Volvo S80 T6. Twin turbo...only advantage to the twin is that it spools up the pressure faster than a single. That's about it and I still have to deal with the turbo lag. Previous car was a Regal GS supercharged. Immediate engine response came with the supercharger.

yes, a supercharger is more money, and i can do the turbo job myself, i just need to figure out how to run the turbo on a carb engine. should i just go with one turbo then and it wont make much of a difference?

What do you plan on using for headers? or if you go single, header? I definatley dont think that a turbo setup is less expensive than a supercharger.

with a smaller turbo for about 400 i can do the rest of the piping and work myself. i just did not know if it was possible to do turbo charging on a carb engine and need to know how the set up works for a carb engine. if ne one has any pictures of an existing turbo set up on a carb engine please send me an email. thanks

You could probably do something like this, except a turbo in place of the centrifigal sc. Pipe turbo into intercooler, then out into the carb with a carb bonnet like in the pic. The bonnet basically presurises the carb. You might need to pressurize the float bowls, Im not sure. You need special floats, and a few other carb mods. Also look at this site. This is Twin_Turbo's site. He has built a tt engine, but im not too sure how he did it. http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/twin...cs/default.asp

thanks

I'm confused, two intake manifold?

You'll need to have variable fuel pressure. A carb doesn't run much pressure, so the pressure has to increase with the boost pressure. I had a web site of a guy with a procharged and carbed Chevelle. I mean for $1300 you can have a FAST unit. I'd just go EFI.

I ran a twin turbo carb setup. The carb will work fine, stick with a holley, chop the air horn off. get some nitrophyl floats. "I have a holley 950 already modified for this. " But just from the sounds of it, the 950 may be a little much. I also have a carb bonnet that can fit under the stock hood as long as the manifold does not exceed 5/12 inches, a torquer manifold is about perfect, as it has a tapered face for the carb. You will want a 360 manifold. No dual plane bs, as it will create unequal flow under boost. You will need a mechanical fuel pump with a boost reference port on it. I have one of those too if you need it. You will also need a boost timing retard system. I have one of those too... if you need it. Other than that, it's ton's of fun to try to create the right headers to mount the turbo's. My first setup had the turbos sitting right on top of the valve covers, I had to dimple the covers just a tad to make them work. here's a hint, look into marine manifolds, they are thick, and if you find the right ones, they have the right bolt patterns for a t-4. Thats how my first setup was designed.

Since then I became much more serious about the TT system, and have completly re done every single thing... details later once she's all done. but it's been 3 years in the process now .... but so far the looks make it all worth it.

do you have any pictures of your set up? thanks. im beginning to think i will run a single turbo system first and see how the car holds up with it. if all goes well i will change to twin turbo into the future.
