A Volvo Guy's Thoughts
This excerpt from a review of new tires from a guy that is real proud of his Turbo Volvo 740:
======================================== ======
"Im looking forward to getting a chance to use them when I come up on some punk in one of those silly, noisy rice burners, or a knuckle dragger in his corvette/mustang/camero. "Damn was that a Volvo that just smoked our a?!" I love to see the looks on ther faces in my rearview mirror."
======================================== ======
I might drag my knuckles but at least I can spell Kamaro.

That's a typical typo. I do respect the Volvos. They're pretty capable machines. There is also a pretty large community as well. http://www.turbobricks.org/ is one popular site. Their forum has 4421 members. Any vehicle that comes from the factory with a turbocharger gets modified by its owners and starts to pick up a community. The intercooler found on many Volvos is also a desirable upgrade to other turbocharged vehicles.

Aren't Volvo's what hippies upgrade to when their Suburu kick the bucket?

Re: A Volvo Guy's Thoughts (Avette4me)
One of my bosses at work has the Volvo station wagon. He used to be a car-guy (300 zx turbo many years ago). He's having a bit of a midlife crisis, turning 40 next month, so he decides he wants a COBRA (yes he can afford one easily). I found him one and he test drove it, and he said it SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF HIM. Changed his mind real fast, now he doesn't want one anymore. 2200 pounds and 427 cubes does that to Volvo guys.
I then suggested he get one of these:

The 740s I remember had the B230f engine in there, and can't say how many of them are in the junkyards with blown bottom ends, right through the block,...one of those engines is where I got the TPI setup from for my Volvo engine/o-drive boat.....converted it to TPI 4 cyl version....run by a GM computer....that's where I found out those 740s with that engine were junk...
but on the other hand, a buddy of mine had one in the station wagon, boosted the engine, and outran may a *** import sports car, used to hunt for them....course he also had a 427 L88 vette too......so he wasn't ALL bad.....

They are finely engineered, complex automobiles and no doubt could out accelerate a C2/C3. But I am old-fashioned and enjoy my 37-year-old Corvette very much. Checked my knuckles and they seem OK. I don't know what gene pool he is referring to.

as i am living in volvo country (Sweden) i have seen many really fast volvos
those engines are not weak they just last forever!!!
and with some tuning they really move fast.
but i should never buy a 740 myself they just looks like a container
have had meny volvo 240 as winter cars.
i had one that had gone approx 300000 miles just kept going until i sold it.

Re: A Volvo Guy's Thoughts (stingraymaniac)
My friend has a volvo 240 GLT 2 door and swapped the turbo motor into it, and when he runs 15 psi of boost it destroys my vette and just noses out his dads 454 69 chevelle. No it doesn't look sweet, but it would be a sweet daily driver as its reliable as hell and fairly easy on gas. That and hes got like 3 grand into it. He's also not bad though as he has a 66 chevelle ss.

Re: A Volvo Guy's Thoughts (aharte)
Driving a volvo is kinda like putting around on a moped... it might feel right and be fun, but is it something you would never want your friends to see you doing.

You fellows have to accept the basic reality that a modern car like a Volvo or a tweaked Honda Civic can blow the doors off a stock C3. I have seen Civics in the 12 second range. Just swallow your pride. Technology advances. Nothing to be ashamed of.

I don't think you are taking into account a 427 big block 4 speed.
Are you just thinking about the base L48. like in a 79.
I would be careful and not lump them all into the same C3 group.
There are a number of C3's on this very forum that are reality and would not have to swallow any pride.
