C4 guy, need an answer to a C3 question.
Hello all,
This is Brian Blum from the C4 world. I have a question. A friend of mine has come across a 68 Corvette with no engine or trans for $3000.00. I haven't seen it myself yet, but he said the interior is in pretty good shape and the body is nice as well. If it is a clear title car, would this be a good price or no?

If the only thing missing is the engine and transmision and the car is in very good shape it could be a nice project car but you have to be carefull when you buy and old vette.

Sounds like a good deal if everythign is in shape. Things that need to be looked for are a rusted frame especially around the rear tires where the frame deadends and goes up strait to form the wheel well, the calipers need to be checked to see if they are leaking, need to check to make sure no bushings tore and fell out, should probably check to see endplay of the sideyokes, and teh play of the bushings.

Engines and transmissions are a dime a dozen if you're not looking to build a racer. The real money comes out for interior, bodywork and paint.
Check for rust closely. Where the trailing arm mounts to the frame and the windshield posts are the worst points.
Maybe if you're nice your buddy will give you a ride in his classic after he gets it done and you can see what you've been missing.

If the frame and all the above mentioned is OK, YEAH that sounds like a good deal to me. You can drop and engine/tranny in a weekend. Buy a crate BB ($7,000) add a tranny (<$1,000) and you'll have a decent Vette.

Definitly a good deal, engines and trannys are easyto come by, watch that BB though, weight can almost outweigh the benefits of a BB, since you can get smalls up to around 400 hp for cheap, and can often find a kit, like from Performance Auto Warehouse for about 2 grand

If no rust and the interior is as good as you say it may be, I'd say you've stumbled across a good deal. That would be a neat car to stuff a LS1/LS6 & a 6-speed into.

Nope. Your friend should steer clear of that one. But give me the phone number so I can call the owner and chew him out
