Why does everyone want to buy my LT1?
When I tell people I have a 1970 LT1 in my C2 people want to buy it. Why? Is it valuable? What's so special? I've heard that the original GM high rise aluminum intake is also desirable - anyone know why? Don't get me wrong - this thing runs like a raped ape. Of course I've had it professionally built...

is it a crrate motor from 70 or a motor out of a 70 corvette. if it is a motor out of a 70 the people want it cuz it is a rare motor with 1,287 cars made with an LT-1

.......the reason a '70 LT1 motor is so desirable is, as Nowhere Man said, the low production numbers in a Vette........
Your engine has been changed quite a bit, but the casting numbers and date codes will help determine how valuable the individual parts are.....in particular the numbers on the heads, block and intake..........if these line up to 70 LT1, then someone would pay a premium for the correct date coded parts............

Re: Why does everyone want to buy my LT1? (Love My 72 and 77)
Thanks for chiming in everyone - It is an LT1 from a 1970 Corvette - Came with the car (car was a basket case when I bought it) Engine mods include porting and polish, a new cam and valve train and new pistons - otherwise the rest is stock - same crank, rods, manifold, windage tray - etc.
I'm not selling it since I've got a few $$ in it and it only has about 1000 miles on it. But know I know why people are so crazy about it. It didn't run so well when I got it due to 11:1 compression and the unavailabilty of good gas - also I think the Mallory dual point was a piece of CHIT. Lifters always out of adjustment. I wanted it to be more reliable and streetable so I lowered the compression to about 10:1 (hence new pistons) changed out the mech lifters to hydraulics, installed more radical cam (to get the HP back) - put in new valve guides and generally made it breath better. I also replaced the carb with an OE replacement from Holley. It runs great but gets lousy gas mileage. I'm working on that.
Hey Glenn - tell me more about your 64 with the LT1 - what color? Do you know the VIN?

Any chance you can provide the casting numbers off the exhaust manifolds?
Would like to compare to the set I have. Thanks
