RANT: Hooker Sipe Pipes and Their **** Poor Quality Control!!
I installed my side tubes this week and the passgen side brackets were off. The bracketes were about 1/2-3/4 of an inch from the frame holes. The side tubes were on as FAR as the could go (I de-burred and used never seize on the inside of the pipe). To correct this I hade to notch the holes in the frame for it to fit. I guess their mold/jig was off.
Well I finally got them on and go to install the tires and fine the passenger side tube is 1/2 inch from the tire! :mad Second guessing myself I measured the seam on the header to the tube and they are both exactly 6 1/2in. Looks like I'm going to have to wack 1/2 inch off my new chrome headers that I don't have 1 single mile on! :mad :mad :mad
Anyone had this problem?

Corey, I've had 2 sets of Chrome Hookers and they both lined up with the frame holes. I would measure the length of the tabs from the inlet end and compare the positions with forum members sidetubes. If they are off, I'd say you have an exchange coming. Charles

You know all Hooker products are now made in Mexico. You must have gotten the last ones made before siesta time...

i have heard lots of horror stories about Hooker's quality over the years...usually in referance to poor chrome...
i have never voiced this here however because there are so many Hooker lovers (no pun intended) here on the forum...
i personaly think they are over rated...no offense intented...

I have the same problem with my set of chrome Hooker sidepipes. The driver side fits in the slots, but the passenger side (after lots of deburring/grinding) was about 3/8" behind the slots.
So, out came the drill, and I extended the slots. It's not too close to the rear tire, but, it was a pain to get installed.

Man the boss must have been watching when they made mine. Everything fit perfectly. Didn't have to bend cut or move anything to install mine. They even fit under the valance panel without cutting it. I must have got lucky

Obviously I know nothing about side pipes. Now I know the cylinders are offset but I thought that would be taken care of with the headers. That way they could make the pipes themselves the same, cutting costs, are they interchangeable ?

Look at the gap between the pipe and the tire. On th driver's side I have 1in clearance on the passenger I have 1/4in from the tire.

I remember a article in one of the vette mags about the same issue installing the side pipes. The had to wack the crap out of them to fit and cut some fiberglass.
