Default NC owners, smog!

I've just moved here from Kansas, where late model cars are run with open headers What are you guys having to do to pass inspection? I believe my Sportsman 2s and Hooker Comp headers are both legal. I'm guessing I'll need a cat, EGR, ??? Please let me know the bare minimum I can get by with (Will I get caught for gutted cat and non working smog-parts?)

Don't get me wrong, I intend to be as well-tuned as possible, I just don't want it choked!

Thanks,
Chris

Default Re: NC owners, smog! (LiveandLetDrive)

25+ years and older only requires the annual safety inspection (lights, brakes, etc) and not a sniffer test. Costs a lot less too. But... if they are stickler's, they will do a visual inspection of emissions equipment that's supposed to be there, such as the air pump, EGR, heat riser, cat, etc. - whatever the book tells them to look for.

edit: wanted to add that they look for the smog equipment, but they don't test any of it for function.
