Default Yet another tire question (16")

I have 16" C4 wheels on my car. The stock tire size is 255/50/16, but there isn't much selection in that range. I ordered pilot sports a few weeks ago, but tirerack doesn't know when they'll get them in (could be months). None of the other tires in that size seem comparable, but there are a bunch of nice ones if I go to 245/45 or 245/50. Will those fit safely on my rims? The rear wheels are 9.5" wide (fronts are 8.5"), but the listed upper limit is 9".

The 245/50s are going to be a slightly smaller diameter than the 255s, and the 245/45s are going to be quite a bit smaller. They'll definitely affect your speedometer accuracy. You won't be going nearly as fast as you think you are. I have 255/50x16 Sumitomo HTR-Zs on a Camaro, and they're a really nice tire.
