I'm rebuilding my engine, and have decided to replace my oil pan. the problem I have is that I can't find one that seems identical to mine. I got one from Summit yesterday, but the sump is shaped differently, and I'm not sure it will clear the tie rod. The pans I've looked at from the corvette specific vendors don't look like the one I have either. I'm thinking maybe someone switched my pan already (before they played "Dukes of Hazzard" with the car, and bottomed it out), and that the new one I have may work. Any suggestions?

I had a Milodon replacement pan on the 350 that came with the vette when I bought it and it fit perfectly.

I looked at that on Summit's website just now. Is it possible to paint over the gold finish, or do you just leave it gold?

Mine was painted over Chevy Orange.

I have a generic Summit pre-painted orange steel pan on my car and it fits just fine. Plenty of room for the steering.

IIRC from researching the correct pan for my big block, the smal blocks used different pans with & without power steering. Might want to check on the NCRS board or in "factory correct resto" also.

There is different possibilities - just make sure that it states "suitable for Corvette with power steering". One important thing is that the pan must fit the height (or depth) of the oil pump pickup - it should be between 3/8 and 1/2 inch above pan bottom (not higher nor lower)! Otherwise you might have trouble with oil pressure.

Therefore I would recommend to purchase a matching set of pan and pickup (which also must fit the pump... HV pumps for example are a bit higher than standard pumps).

Any stock replacement small block pan will fit . One from a truck for example but do not use the corvette specific pick-up tube with those .

Scoggin-Dickey has the correct pan for around 100 bucks .

Myself I would use a stock original over an aftermarket for a stock or milder build-up

I bought the powder coated orange Summit pan, and the oil pump pickup that's supposed to go with it. It sounds like it should clear the power steering cylinder, but if not, I'll repaint and reuse my original one.

It is the Milodon replacement pan numbered 30700.

After having major problems with a milodon pan on my BB, I would recommend going with a stock pan from GM. The Milodon pan did not have the trap door and pickup shroud of the original. I would watch the oil pressure hit zero when I got on the brakes hard!

Went to a dealership and ordered the factory pan. It was about $130, I think. Fit perfectly and no pressure drops when braking.

You may want to double check the part # Summit sent you against the correct year. 1980 and up have a different depth to the pan. I just ordered shock absorbers for my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee and the parts place I ordered from picked the wrong part. The invoice was correct but the part was not.
