Default It Lives !!

Those following my threads. . .
I've almost got it.

As I told Lars in an email, I didn't think I had the timing screwed up.
I was wrong.

I used his timing paper to set the timing, and low and behold you cannot do it that way with an HEI. He states that on the one on this site, but I read an older one off of the corvetteFAQ. The timing was set way too high.
I just pulled off the vacuum advance and set initial at approximately 12* and viola!! The backfiring is almost gone. Power is back to normal.

So, my problems were. . .
Bad ignition components. (miss)
wrong size jets in carb. (hesitation)
timing improperly set. (backfire)

It's almost there. Still backfires from time to time, just needs a little more tweaking. Whew!
I was about ready to shoot it. Now I'm happy.

Also try a diffrent set of weights and springs in your distributor, i got a recurve kit from summit and my back fire disappeared completly, good to hear that your getting it fixed
