Default rear deck and gas tank

If I were to change the rear deck to something like that of the stingray with the short rear window and long deck would the gas tank of a 78-82 still fit under the rear deck like the coupe that it was. I assume that it would unless these design differences significanty changed. Any ideas?

Unless you intent to keep the car forever, I'd look for a 74 - 77 Vette instead. It may be hard to sell later.

Having seen the 68-74, 75-77, and 78-82 tanks I would have to say that the 78-later filler neck location would give you the biggest problem in trying to fit it to a pre-78 deck.

Question is: why go to all that touble changing the rear deck? Fitting it would be a nightmare!

Let's put it this way..........I have a bare 79 Frame that I'm starting with.......I am building a corvette from the ground up, mostly new parts ie suspension, engine tranny and everything else pretty much in between, though with the body I am looking into different options, I'd rather build the car at this point than go and buy a whole nother car. This way it's "my vette", I'm looking for a challenge.

Replace the 79 spare tire carrier with a C4 spare tire carrier and donut spare tire. You will gain ax. 4 and some inches of space underneath the 79 fuel tank. Then have a fuel cell made to your specs. You will find that you can carry an additional 8-10 gallons of volume.

Sell your frame. Go find a complete car and rebuild that. Its not going to be just a challenge but a very expensive nightmare !
