OK, I really need to get the GM service manual for my '79. Where can I get one? What is a reasonable price?
What other books should I look at getting?

Kevin,

Try to find one on eBay. If you get lucky, you can get one for 10 bux or so. You should also get a copy of the AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) for your year, and perhaps the Chevrolet Overhaul Manual.

I have seen a few on E-bay- but most of them are the Chevrolet Sevice Manual (Passenger cars). Is one of these worth the $9? The Corvette Service Manual reprint is going for $59 & the Assembly manual for $24 (both are new).

Would the passenger car manual be worth it? The ad claims to cover Corvette...

I tried the generic GM service manual for the 74 I used to have and spent a lot of time just trying to find the sections that cover vetts. I got rid of it and bought the actual GM Corvette manual. More specific and you don't have to worry that you're reading the wrong section (ask me how I know!).

I bought the manual for the 81 I just got from someone in the C3 ad section. He was great to deal with and I got a service manual and assembly book very reasonably priced.

Well worth the money spent!

early years just offered the GM (all models) manual . sometime in the late 70's they had specific model manuals. ANY GM manual is far better than the aftermarket manuals.

Go for one on E-Bay... I picked up mine for $15. Seem to get into it everytime I work on the car.

ST36479 - 1979 Corvette Shop Manual
ST35979 - 1979 Passenger Car Electrical Diagram

Covers all models so will have to dig the Vette stuff out.

Check EBay for the best prices. New from Helms they are $60.00
