The graph of the LS2 versus the LS6 shown in the other thread shows the LS6 pulling a few more RPM before the HP curve drops. That is probably the 5hp. Apparently the LS2 cam part number is in the new GM books, but they is not a cross-reference for it and no specs. It will be nice to see the specs once released(it is supposed to be the 2001 Z06 cam from recent GM comments).

the LS-2 is a LS-6 with a bigger bore which unshrouds the valves for better top end breathing. my guess is that the LS-2 make more than 400 HP. they were making over 400 HP on the dyno at the corvette engine plant last july when i was at the plant and watched the dyno run and i will bet they found more HP since

Is there any specific area were LS6 engines tend to fail more?
Connecting rods, blocks, crankshaft, bearings, pistons etc..?
I am asking this because i just heard today at the track that a Red Z06 could not run because it blew the engine, they say that the problem was related with the pistons but no specifics......

Its underated. I expect to see 500rwhp engines all over the place with
the ready to purchase stroker "c6" available off the floor. Those pesky cobras and rice cars were bad enough.

Holy crap! The LS2 has as much torque at 2000rpm as my LT1 does at its peak! That must be helluva lot of fun to just drive around without even dipping into the throttle...
What American or European or Japanese cars currently in production or slated for production within the next two years can touch 400/400? I'm sure its slightly underrated to keep people buying C5s.

Yeah I wonder about that '05 GTO. If it puts down that much horsepower, what kind of 1/4 times can we expect? Something on par with M3s would be nice...

Very clever graph, indeed!
If you look at the torque axis (left), the scale is not from 0, but from 250 ft-lbs! This is done to magnify the torque differences between the two curves. By leaving the HP axis (right) at full scale (starting at 0) and zooming in on the torque axis they've managed to visually exaggerate the difference in torque between the two engines. Yes, the LS2 is torquier (it'd better be with 6.0L and CR = 10.9:1!), but the difference is less impressive than it appears on this graph.
Also, the LS6 torque curve is shown to peak at 390 ft-lbs instead of 400 ft-lbs! A little play with the scale and a little fudging and VOILA! The LS6 is made to cower like David before Goliath! In reality, the hp curves are virtually identical across the powerband!
Both MT's and C&D's tests of the C6 show it to be comparable in acceleration to a '01 Z06 and a step or two behind the '02+ Z06s. Right in line with projections based on power-to-weight!

I think that GM is sandbagging with the LS2. I don't think that GM wants to outclass the LS6 at this point.
I won't be surprised if people are able to pick up 20-30 rwhp by simply doing a tune. That's my feeling anyway.

The magnification of the torque difference is not made by starting the scale at 250. It's made by the difference between lines of the graph, or 20 lb-ft. per graph line. To make the difference seem even greater, you could make the lines of the graph only 5 lb.-ft. apart and the difference would look huge.
