Feedback wanted regarding the purchase of a 1979 vett
I have the chance to purchase a 1979 vet for $13,000. I have not seen the car as yet - this is the info I have so far.
39,000 orginial miles
All orginial - owner has not tuned up the car to ensure the orginial spark plugs are kept in the car.
Green ext / Tan int
Only 2 owners
Would like to know what to reseach to ensure this is a acceptable offer.
Thanks

You might want to try posting this in the C3 section.

$13,000 is on the high end for a '79. The car would have to be EXCEPTIONALLY nice to pull that kind of dough. What trans does it have? What other options-not that it really matters-most of the later C3's came heavily optioned as standard equipment. What is the history of the car? Do you have pictures of it?

Does the engine run? If not try to find another C3 vette. Heck, I got a 77 vette for under a grand. Try looking on ebay, in the want-adds, and keep your eyes open. The 13 grand sounds a little high and as previously stated, would not be worth it unless it was in exceptional condition.

"Has not tuned up the car to ensure original spark plugs are in the car"? :skep: It's a fair price if the car is exceptional. But I'll bet it runs rough and this is the excuse being used by the seller.
$13,000 is about what you'd expect to pay for an exceptional '79 C3 L82 with all options (including glass tops) from a Corvette dealer, not a private party. Ask me how I know...
Good luck! :seeya

Plug the condition and options into this calculator. I don't buy that spark plug business.

As the owner of a 79 I would not pay anywhere near that much for one. I still consider it to be one of the poorest cars GM ever built.

I concur with the tone of the responses. Anything much over $10K for a car that is as plentiful as the 78/79's would give one pause for thought. Who cares if it's a low mileage wonder! Any car 25 years old is still going to need lots of TLC to replace dried out rubber parts, etc.
So unless you have a sentimental reason for buying this precise car, keep looking and invest the savings in speed parts. In stock form they need help.
