Default Holley/MSD Gurus...Overly rich condition..Fixed..

Today i was going to a local race and stopped by my friends garage to wash my car and shoot the poopie as always.
After i had washed the car and was about to leave for the race,my car was very hesitant to start and i had to jam the throttle wide open to get it to start.
When it started it smoked black and it really smelled like raw fuel.
The fun part is that it ran great `till i shut her down to wash her.
We checked the float levels and they were right on the money.
The car idles really bad and it dropped from about 800 to about 500 and really chugs.
So i blew of the race and started to drive home and the car is so incredible unresponsive and it chuged when i cruised home.
When i let off on the gas its was like i turned the ignition off,not that "normal" enginebreak sound.
Talked to some friends of mine and they suggested that it could be the MSD 6AL that were starting to act up..
Any ideas?
:smash:

I had a 6al box go bad on me once and it shut down completly and wouldn't start, so it's probably not your problem.

Did you wash the engine? sounds to me like you got some water in the dist cap. Take it off and dry it inside then spray it with wd40 and try that. Otherwise you might have a float sticking, tap the float bowls with a screwdriver.

Maybe you have a piece of junk in one or both of your needles/seats preventing them from closing off properly? Sometimes this can happen without seeming to affect the float levels too much. Only thing I can think of right now.

Try tightening the fuel bowl bolts (4 each side), they can vibrate loose causing air to be sucked in and fowling everything up.

You may have fouled a plug (or two) while trying to start it. That would explain the black smoke and the raw fuel smell and also it's crappy idle. What is it's tune condition? Plugs? Wires? Timing? Etc.?

Check the power valve. If the diaphram cracks, it will siphon gas.
