side yokes
DO THE SIDE YOKES HAVE TO BE INSTALLED A CERTAIN POSITION? I HAVE SEEN SOME 90 DEGREES DIFFERENCE AND SOME SAME ANGLE,WHICH IS CORRECT? GM MANUAL DOES NOT SPECIFY!

No, the reference in the early manuals for positioning was for installing the rear end in the car with the cover still in place- not the best to remove or install a vette differential.

No, it makes no difference what angle you install the yokes relative to each other. Remember what the whole point of the differential is.... to allow the wheels to spin at different speeds. As the previous poster mentioned, even if you installed them exactly identical to each other (no offset of any kind), the first time you rounded a corner, you'd see one yoke would be offset by some amount relative to the other. Basic physics. Hope that helps.

Re: side yokes (Chumpzilla)
This is a very common question. But all of the above are true. I think in some manuals(not sure which ones) but it states that they should be install 90deg. from one another. This just makes installation easier. Like the others said, as soon as you hit a turn or do a little burn out, which ever comes first, they will change.

Re: side yokes (Van Steel)
The angles are set such that all Ujoints can be installed without spinning
the yokes or pinion. Something like they should all be 45 degrees from
horizontal ... or vertical ... same thing now that I think about it.

Re: side yokes (NHvette)
Thanks everyone for the replies. I don't know what I was thinking.(differential) I was just trying to do everything correctly so I don't have to go do this again.
