I use cheap Habor Frieght click type torque wrenches only because I can calibrate them at work. The click type are a little more simpler to use since you know when to stop pulling when you hear the click. But the wrench that holds calibration the best is the cheapest type - beam type wrenches . Unless you bend the bar that beam type will hold its calibration. And the pivoting handle ensures the same lever arm distance is applied each time. Don't be afraid of the cheap beam types but you can get careless and apply overtorque. $20 buys a 1/2" and 3/8" set.

I've always been told that the click stop type are the best. The simple spring type are not real accurate. As noted above; always uload it when not using.

Nice thing about the clickers is the ratchet head.
I recall every beam type that I've seen to be a fixed head.

I have a HF 1/2" clicker ... does the job at 1/20th the cost of a SnapOn.

THE BEST ?? I would have to side on SnapOn, but I obviously don't think it is
worth the investment for a hobby. Maybe if I made money with it every day.

Craftsman. I have both 3/8 & 1/2 drive in lb/ft and lb/in. Good warrenties.

Do not leave them loaded, back off setting when done.

Do not go with a swing/beam type if you are serious about correct values of torque, they are not very accurate for long usage.

:iagree: I have both...A Craftman clicker and el cheapo beam. I use the clicker for the first 2/3 of the torque and finish up with the beam.

:iagree: But the torque wrenches are not lifetime I don't think. I got my 3/8 Snap-On clicker for about $80 delivered on Ebay. I also have a 1/2 Craftsman beam-type and a no-name 1/4 beam-type inch-lb wrench.

No liftime warrenty on Snap-on torque wrenches. I have a 1/4 inch drive and a 3/8 inch drive both Snap-on's. About releasing the setting on a click type after use. You are suppose to set it to the lowest setting. If you let it out further than the lowest setting it will also damage the unit.

I have a Proto, Craftsman, and harbor Freight 1/2" click wrenches. The Sears is out of whack and it was cheaper to purchase the harbor freight ($12.00) than spend (99.00) to have the Craftsman re-calibrated. BTW, I bought the Proto way back in '72 and it's still clicking and right on the money.

I have a Craftsman 3/8" clicker. I'm VERY uncertain as to how well it came calibrated. I used a cheapo clicker (sorry, he didn't know the brand) my father purchased and it had a more positive click and felt better when torquing my wheels.
