I need console paint advice
I am repainting the bezel, shift plate, heater control plate and so on. The shift plate and center bezel came out great but painting over the chrome on the heater controls and shift pattern plate is not coming out right. Do I need to primer these or what would work. I am using Krylon semi gloss. Thanks, Bill.

If you've wiped everything down with prep-sol or similiar cleaner and it's still goofing up, then you should try a non sanding metal primer.

I took all the paint off with a gooey paint stripper, then cleaned the chrome with acetone. Sprayed over the chrome with the krylon semi gloss. Seems to holding up fine so far.

If you're repainting Black...
Best thing to use is Marhydes. I used this when I restored my interior, you can see pictures by clicking on the link in my Sig. Marhydes is what is recommended in numerous Corvette restoration books. I was VERY pleased with the results. I used a flat black primer first and did not mask off any of the chrome. You can actually get the primer & paint off he chrome after dries by using an Xacto knife.
