700r4 govenor Do I need it???
HI
I have a TCI manual valve body but still can not do a WOT shift. I have to let off
between each gear. I 've read enough to be dangerous but it seems that the govenor is the only thing controlling the shift points as it no longer uses a TV valve. So do you think I could just remove the weights and springs?
I've emailed TCI but so far no response. Thanks for any thoughts you might have on this..

A manual vavle body is just what the name implies. Manual only - No auto shift function at all. I've owned then in various auto trannies including my 700R4
Your might have real problems. I don't think that a full manual even has the govenor installed
If I'm racing I let mine do an auto shift 1-2 because it happens so fast. Then i manually shift mine around up and down.
I bought two govenors a 5000 rpm for around town driving and a 6800 for big slicks and sticky tracks

Re: 700r4 govenor Do I need it??? (gkull)
Thanks Gkull
This is a fresh rebuilt 700r4 out of a 92 Suburban and works great up till about 4500 rpm if I wind it up in any gear higher then that when I shift it feels like its in neutral till I let off the gas then it completes the shift from then on it works great till the next shift. I am running a 4.11 rearend with 350 hp.
I installed the manual valve body and there was no mention of the govenor so I assumed it wouldn't be used also. If that's the case then I'm not sure where to look next. Thanks again

I was thinking about a manual valve body but this is scary. Let us know how it goes.

Virgil - I would suspect that your TV cable is not tensioned correctly.
You have static set it to no slop in the cable at the shut throttle blades posistion. Then You have to get someone in the driver seat to floor the gas petal and ensure that the cable has enough movement to allow for full open throttle blades.
The real correct way is to use a pressure gauge connected to the side of the tranny to adjust the TV cable.
But the no slop method works. If you can't adjust it to no slop I've used plastic tie wraps as spacers on the front of the cable bead to remove slop.
Turttle Vette - I had an Art Carr Racing 700R4 setup for full manual with my switch lockup set to lock 2,3, & 4th gears. It was great fun with a 3800 stall 9.5 inch. It's like a 4 speed manual without a clutch petal. It was great fun:) for about a year when I blew out the T.C. clutch plate. That's when i bought the 3 clutch T.C. and I learned the expensive way that the single clutch units can't withstand 7000+ rpm WOT shifts
The other day doing the one mile drag strip tests I forgot about turning off my manual switch lockup and it withstood a 3 into 4th gear lockup shift at 7000 at WOT.
