Default O/T need a lil help here

My wifes Buick Centry started to make a funny knock noise. I notesed that
the hermonic ballencer is coming apart. I can turn the belt and every thing turns, the out side of the ballencer turns with it.
Has anyone ever changed one on a 3300 motor befor?
Its a 93.

:edit: spelling.

Thanks
Terry

I've only done one on a Ford escort. Basically had to disconnect the motor mounts (top & bottom) and raise the engine a few inches to clear the frame. If the strut is in the way and or the inner fender well. Those have to come out too. On some cars the motor has to come out or the whole front unibody has to drop down from under the car (my uncle had to di this with a Taurus).

Definitely weigh your time for doing it yourself or having to pay someone else to do it.

Good Luck!

Are you sure it's a balancer. It's normally the idler pulley that goes on those engines.

The balancer is loose where the rubber is. I'll turn it at the alt. fan and the outside of it moves. Then it gets to where it wants to make a knock noiseand the center of the balencer starts to move.

The balancer generally slides off the crank after you remove the bolt holding it on. You may need an impact gun and harmonic balance puller in order to get it off. The balancer slides onto a key which keeps the balancer from rotating on the crank shaft.

Would the Buick have a 3800 v6? if it does this is a common problem remove the bolt and pull it off but be careful for the crank sensor and the mounting bracket. Don't ask how i know. Pulling the passenger side tire off and the plastic shield will help make it an easyier job.
