Default Has anyone painted thier Carb ??

Im thinking of doing mine with Eastwoods silver Carb Paint then applying high gloss clear coat over that. Has anyone painted thier carb, and if so: What paint did you use, did you get some peeling or flaking, and does it remain shiney ??

Thanks, Dave

Gas is a very good solvent for paint. I've painted with enamel and epoxy. The epoxy holds up better but it still doesn't hold up to gas and the environment of the engine compartment. There is a reason the carbs are plated. It is the most durable finish. I've had paint look good for maybe a year or so. Remember that carb cleaner will take the paint off as well. I have no experience with Eastwood's carb paint.

I used Eastwood's gold carb paint on this circa 1965 vintage Holley 4150 that was down to the base metal.
Works OK but a constant fuel seepage will lift the paint....

I have a Solex marine carb on my Volvo boat motor. It was originally painted a nice shade of black...until I put the carb cleaner to it!

Forget it. :smash:

The Eastwood gold on the old 3x2 carbs is the wrong shade, but it was better than the washed out look! As I did it, I found that a REAL light coat worked best. Gas will eat it over time.

I used the Eastwood's gold on a 2-bbl. It works great if you follow directions and only put on one thin coat. If you try to touch up an area with a second coat, it looks like paint. One thin coat looks like the original plating. Joe

A carb shop will re-tint your carb if your looking for a like new look.

For the camaro, with my blower carbs, as soon I got them, they came apart, and had the center section and metering blocks powdercoated black, bought chrome bowls and had the throttle body plate powdercoated aluminum.

Took alot of taping off of ports, etc, but came out great. Only problem though is that they don't want to coat a carb that already has had gas thru it.

Paint wise, would have to pretty strong poopie not to get screwed up when touch by gas or as stated above - carb cleaner.
