Default *&%$#@! I did it again!!! *&%$#@!

Some of you may remember what happened to me last 4th of July Sunday;
my g/f & I took out my '82 for a nice cruise with the T-tops off, only to get caught on the Turnpike, in a construction area, with no 'shoulder' to pull-off & put the tops back-on. I had to drive for 20 minutes in a driving rain-storm...
:rolleyes:

Fast-forward to today; we took-out the car, for it's initial T-top-less ride of the year under partly-cloudy skies...
At 4:00 PM, sitting at a red-light, we heard ACCU-GUESS Weather forecast, and I quote:
"Rain showers expected after sun-down, heavy rains possible after midnight..."
We drove 2 more blocks, to a new movie-rental store, to pick-up a flick for the evening. We left the car sitting in a well-protected spot, parked diagonally...
Being a new customer, I had to 'register' and show ID;
before I was half-way done, I looked outside, and it was FREAKING POURING!!!!!
With-in 3 minutes, the deep-dish seats were FILLED with water; interior door-panels, console, cargo area:
do you KNOW how much water can collect INSIDE your sun-visors???

I rushed outside (as the video-store employees had a good laugh at my expense...), to re-install the T-Tops, as my g/f checked-out a movie.
We drove to my home to watch the movie;
by 4:15PM, the skies were clear of clouds;
by 4:25PM, my driveway was almost completely dry...

My g/f says those are the only 2 times we've removed the T-tops in almost 2 years of dating;
should I 'risk' a 3rd attempt?
:confused:

Glen, I call my Silver '68 "The Rain Corvette". I do not drive this one as much as the others, but every freakin' time it comes out, it gets rained on BEFORE I can get it back in the garage :crazy:

Paul:
I have owned this car 4 years (as of last Monday), and I've been caught in the weather 4 times;
1st date with previous g/f, on-way home from a Show, in the SNOW!!!:
last 4th of July-weekend, as stated earlier, with g/f:
earlier this month, on way home from local Corvette Show at the Mall, with g/f:
today, with g/f....

I wonder how quickly and easily those cloth tops can be thrown over the top? They seem like a good alternative to carrying around your tops when you are cruising around town. I hate putting my tops in the car because they are so big and bulky. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...MQ7WAMBAB04FN2
Cant seem to find a pic of the stupid thing online. THere is one in the ecklers book!

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger........
I had the 8T1 Vette with T-Tops off cruising this past weekend....Hooked up with DmonsVette and found he was doing the same thing I was doing....dodging the rain. Rain was on the West side of the island so we stayed east.
Came up to the tunnels...not a drop of rain going into tunnels..T-Tops are still off....come out the other end....major down pour...no where to pull over to put the tops on. :mad :banghead: :banghead:

Never carry my tops. :D I do have a set of rain tops :) They will help stop you from getting some rain on you but they are not waterproof by any means but they do help as I have needed them. :blueangel:

Good luck :cheers:

Perhaps if you cruised without the g/f you would have better luck....

You might want to keep the tops on the vette and have the g/f go topless. See if it rains when you try it that way! :jester

:lurk:
I think the g/f likes cruising in the Vette even more than I do;
she'd really like it more if it was a BB/stick, as-opposed to a Cross-Fire/AOD...
:eek:
