Why is my alternator on the passenger side?
Out of all the pics Ive seen posted here mine is the only one with the alternator on the passenger side - just curious as to why it's there or if it matters at all?

Sounds as if, when they installed the NOM engine, that they used the accessories that were already on it instead of using the Vette config.

Mine's always been on the passenger side and it was a numbers matching small block when I got it.

Are you sure about the matching numbers? Don't see why anyone would want to swap all the parts to move the alternator on an original engine.

I think his might be a 76 - Mine is a 71 so I think that yes for a 71, it must just be due to the NOM coming from a non-vette. The passenger side alt could be normal for a 76?? Not sure...

You might want to do some research. But on some wierd configurations like the special California Smog equipped ones, some bracket configurations were different. I remember working on some of the 70s era GM vehicles where if the car was California smog equipped, the belt sizes were different. Now don't quote me on this one, but this could be the case. So before anyone panics, do some research and check the parts books and service manuals. But on the most part, having the alternator on the wrong side indicates that there might have been a motor change.
