Does increasing the power shorten the life of the engine?
i.e.
i doubt the XE cams last 20,000mi on average

Boy, that is a loaded question....it depends on what mods you do......more engine power can also shorten your life........if you are not careful.....

I dont really agree that just increasing power will decrease life expectancy. Compare an early 70s engine to one of the late 70s. The early engines had 50% more power yet still had the same life expectancies. I think it is mostly how radical the engine is built, how it is tuned, mantained, how it is driven and lastly the quality of parts used. Obviously a race car isnt going to last very long concidering they running full throttle for most of the race and hit insanely high rpms.
