Default Stainless Hooker Sidepipes- On Order

Hi Guys
I made some inquiries into a forum/GP discount but was unsucessful, sorry about that.
The good news is that I did order SS Hooker headers & sidepipes thru Summit with the following details:
*They are not in stock. They said they haven't sold any yet, so they don't appear on their website. Delivery is expected late June. They don't charge your Card till they arrive.
*price: SB Headers_hok-2224-3 $830.39
Side tubes hok-50735-3 $410.39
plus $8.95 handling for $1249.73
I thought that price was ok. Cheaper than chrome, and only $130 more than Jet Hot silver(with discount).
I have been tossing up the Jethot stainless issue for a while. I discussed the quality issues(peeling/corrosion) that some forum members have had with Jethot this morning. They said that their coating has a 1300 Deg F limit which can be exceeded with nitrous, blower and even tuning adjustment??? The coating then discolors/peels/corrodes.
Also, If the vehicle sits around for weeks/months, as many vette's do, moisture can accumulate and rust the coating.
Therefore I decided on stainless.
I would like to point out that I have never owned a Jethot or HPC coated product, so I based my decision on forum info and company inquiries. I have had few SS exhausts on cars & bikes with no problems except from heat discoloration on the hottest part of the headers, which I can live with.
Does anyone no of other problems with Stainless???
I also have no affiliation with summit. You may be able to get a better deal somewhere else.
Hope this ifo helps
Cheers

I can't imagine anything better or more durable than stainless. It's the stuff sulphuric acid containers are made of, and it can be polished to a good shine if you want (like stainless silverware). Its only drawback that I can see is cost.
There is a product used to remove the discoloration from exhaust pipes (Harleys) out there that should work on these pipes also. It's probably just a fine polish.

Good luck and post some pics when you get them in... :)

Cool, post some pics when you get them.

To date I have not had any issues with my Jet-hot hookers. I've had them on the car about a year.

I've got factory SS exhausts on my 2001 Excursion(30,000miles) and 2003 Jeep Rubicon(10,000miles). Both have turned brown. Not rusty, just brown. I heard that's what happens when SS & heat meet.

I posted prices few weeks back. (4/2004)
Summit qouted higher prices for the S/S than you have.
1 HOK-2224-3HKR $979.95 HEADERS SIDE MOUNT
1 HOK-50735-3HKR $410.39 SIDETUBES SS FINISH POL
1 HOK-21021 $143.99 Mufflers, Sidetube

Jeg's qouted:
1 HOK-2224-3HKR $955.95
1 HOK-50735-3HKR $441.99
1 HOK-21021 $139.39

Somone posted that they thought they were getting S/S but possibly got coated headers instead. Last I checked the S/S were slightly higher price than the Chrome.

These headers are 304 S/S which does not "surface rust" like 409 S/S which is on most new vehicles now days. They don't rust out, but they do get a "rust" layer and that's just chemical make up of 409 Stainless.

We use 304/321 on our dyno engines a few feet off the manifolds/headers. Then from there Aluminized Steel up to the Exhaust stacks out the building.
Only under extreme high temps does the S.S discolor, not rust.

Once I finish paying for my Tremec conversion (which is a long story) I going to order the S/S sidepipes. Hope we get this cleared up first, I'd hate to get the coated shipped when I wanted the S/S pipes.

304 stainless, almost perfect; if they would just make them with 1-5/8" or 1-3/4" dia primaries and 3" dia side tubes....

I called them today and they are not making them for BBCs. :( I'm really disappointed.

So, I'm either going to pull my coated Hookers off and send them to Jet Hot, or sell these at a big discount and buy some chrome ones (although I'm not 100% sure the chrome will hold up any better?).

I had seen the previous prices quoted in other posts, also the SS/coating mixup saga. All I can say is that I tripple checked the part numbers and prices before I placed my order. The salesman even laughed at me!! But I had to make sure. Now if I don't get the correct parts :boxing
I have also ordered a set of spiral baffles and polished 304SS covers from Jim at STS. Can't wait for all the bits to get here,,, roll on late June.

Cheers
