Air Compressor Advice...Last Call!
I'm goin' to the big city this afternoon to select and purchase an air compressor. I've posted about this before, got some good advice, and followed some other threads.
At this point, I'm looking for :
50 gallons+ tank
220 volt
belt driven(?)/oil-lubed (quieter I'm told)
cast iron for durability
hopefully $750 or less
I have access to Menards, Lowes, and Sam's club where I'm headed. Anyone have any last minute recommendations for me?
Thanks!

I can tell you that a 20 gallon will run all the time if you are using air tools of any demand. 50 gallons or better would help this problem. It really sounds like to me that you have it covered.

I hve seen them at Sam's and Costco for under $500. I got mine at Sam's about ten years ago. Still works great.... :smash: :smash:

Go for the big one. 2 stage, castiron, good cfm and large tank. I'm glad I did. Never thought I would end up building a sandblast cabinet but I did and thankfully I had the compressor that would support it. Maybe on down the road you might want to do some painting, some of those HVLP guns require to good cfm numbers. Little extra now and you'll be happy later on. CHas

CFM at a specific PSI is what you are looking for. The higher CFM the better the compressor is. A 35,000 RPM grinder will run a cheap compressor to death. I would look for a compressor with a large tank (50 gal is good so you got that covered) and at least 7 to 10 CFM@90 PSI minimum.
I'd look for all the features you mentioned and also pay attention to CFM ratings at different pressures.

:iagree:
Buy the largest CFM rating for a given pressure that you can afford. If you are just running air tools and paint spray guns, 135 psi max is adequate. If you plan on sandblasting you may want to go to 2 stage and 175+ psi max.
For $750 you should be able to get one of the less expensive 2 stage units (high max psi) or one of the 4 cylinder single stage (high max CFM) units.
