Actually no! It was the year I graduated from college. I thought it was just some guys starting a band and beginning to get on with life: the band, girls, cars, marriage, etc. Life seemed simpler then. Did I miss some 1990s subliminal message?

For a while I thought the same, until I seen an interview with him on MTV. But in reality it's about the position "69", what makes it so more interesting is that he's rumored to be gay.

In reality the song was written by Bryan Adams and Jim Valance. It is about Jim's life in Vanderhoof BC, Canada around 1965. Jim did get his first guitar in 1965 but it was a Christmas present rather than buying at "the five and dime" They used the year 69 because it fit the tempo and rythym of the song better than 65. It had nothing to do with sexual inuendue. Jim Valance was a gifted song writer that wrote songs for such performers as Adams, Aerosmith, April Wine, Bonnie Tyler, Uriah Heap, Tina Turner, 38 Special , Rod Stewart, Bonnie Raitt, Ozzy Osbourne, Ted Nugent, 38 Special, KISS, Joan Jett, Heart and many many more.

Thanks Pete. You've restored my belief that there really were simpler, kinder times. For some reason I associated the song with the end of the Beatles and the coming of the Woodstock generation.

I will vouch also to Bryan Adams saying the song title refers to a sexual position. This was in a Rolling Stone magazine interview recently with Adams where he refers to "The Summer of 69" as, ummm, having nothing to do with the year 1969.

He is quoted as saying he can't believe people didn't "get it" at first. Then again, this song is like 10 years old? He could be just pulling our leg right now.

Yeah, i must admit I was laughing at replies that stated it WAS actually about the year 1969, until I realized those replies were NOT sarcastic. hmmm

Sounds like an aging rock star trying to regain an "edge." I don't buy it. Like the link says, the phrase "summer of '69" was originally only in one line... I can't think of a convincing reason to think that the song is about a sexual position... :crazy:. I mean, come on. Read the lyrics! I'm all for interpretation, but this one makes no sense. If that's what Bryan Adams was trying to write about, he did a pretty poor job IMHO.
