Default What's a fair asking price for my '79

Well, it's been a great year owning my C3, but with the C6 coming and the prices on C5s becoming VERY affordable, I'm strongly considering making the change come the end of the year. I'd need to sell the '79 for a C5 down payment, so I'm trying to determine what I should ask for my '79. I paid 7K for the car a year ago. I've had three unrelated shops that specialize in Corvettes tell me 7K was a bit of a bargain for what they feel I got for the price, but who really knows. Here's some facts about the car:

transplanted non TPI '85 Vette L98 engine / custom 3" x-pipe w/ Flowmaster 40s & side exit exhaust system
TH400 transmission / 3.55 gears
car lightened to weigh under 3300 lbs
currently producing about 225hp & torque is about 290 at the real wheels, and running a 14.8 sec. 1/4 mile

the notable positives:
recently serviced car w/ 4 new 255/60/15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As, new hoses, belts, water pump, Optima battery, Holley Blue elec. fuel pump, high
torque mini starter
all weather stripping replaced by previous owner and still excellent
rust free & straight frame

the notable negatives:
no emissions equipment left on the car
a/c removed
spare tire carrier gone
needs some minor body & paint repair
speedometer cable just snapped & oil pressure gauge needs to be swapped with new replacement I have.

The car is a great "driver". Attractive, but obvious not a true NCRS type show car. Still, the current paint job and upholstery are only about 3 years old, it's always been garaged, and the car currently looks good enough to have won a trophy at NCCC Corvette show. Based on this, what should I ask? Any suggestions on how to go about selling this particular car?

And you want to get rid of it why???
C5: 13-12 sec. 1/4 mile / mine: 14.8
C5: top speed around 170mph / mine: 112mph (due to BF Goodrich limits) maybe up to 130mph if I chose to ignore the speed rating on the Radial T/As
C5: incredible handling / mine: :nonod:
~ and the biggie ~
C5: 19mpg city - 28mpg highway / mine: 7mpg city - 9mpg highway

C5: Awesome performance in all areas AND fuel economy.
mine: It's always a trade off. Improve something, something else has to be sacrificed.

One thing my car has a C5 does not - THAT LOOK! but a C5 is not exactly an unattractive car, so I can live with it. Hey, if I had the means, and the space, I'd have both for sure, but I can't.

Currently I have both....I can tell you one thing. With my 79 I get so many compliments. Just this past week a guy in a truck and a guy on a motorcycle were asking me questions about the car and said how nice it was. The funny thing is that the car was a dirty mess and still had the diff style drag radials and wheels....The c5 gets barely any compliments....Everybody loves the c3s...
