Default Came home on the hook

Went to visit my mom yesterday morning. Top down beautiful day in Va.
was on my way home on a back road going about 45. Car just cut off with absolutly no warning. I have a unilite conversion that has operated flawlessly for at least 10 years, however that is what went out. Got it towed home and put a set of points in it and it fired right up. I guess I will leave the point in for a while. But one question, it has been years since I messed with them. I have right now 12 volts to the positive side of the coil. Is this ok or due I need a resister to bring it sdown some.

You need the resister or I think you will fry the points.
