Help on 68 BB Side Pipes - new to forum
Hi Everybody,
I've just bought a 68 L-71 and its my first USA made car. Please forgive my ignorance if what i'm asking is obvious.
I've heard that there is somebody in the US that is selling reproduction side exhausts for C3's. Does anybody know who and where they are, and how much?
Also what is the difference between 68 and 69 with the side exhaust? Does a 69 side exhaust fit a 68?
Thanks for your help guys

First off welcome to the forum, LOTS of info can found/learned here. :seeya
1969 was the only C3 that ever cam w/ side exhaust from the factory, but it will fit all years. You mentioned reproduction side exhaust, I'm assuming you are talking about the side exhaust covers. The original were made of metal while the repo's are made of fiberglass. Sveral companies offer the repo's. Ecklers is onf of the companies, and is a popular supplier on the forum. Here is the link --> http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?d...12R8WGLHFQ3QM2
Mid America is also another option, link --> http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=1.1319
Once again welcome

Thanks for the info and the welcome.
I'm still learning a lot with this car.
I was talking to another Vette guy in Australia who imports a lot of parts. He told me that a guy in the USA is making identical copy's of the side pipes, and covers. He wouldn't tell me who the contact was due to him wanting to make some profit. The price he gave me was about $2500US
Thanks again.

Paragon Reproductions sells accurate repros of the '69 sidepipes and covers. These are the chrome plated die cast ones. The $2500 US that you were quoted is about right.
check out: http://www.corvette-paragon.com
I've seen them advertized by Rik's Corvette too:
http://www.riksvet.com
but I think Paragon manufactures them. Both places are very good vendors.

Paragon bought the original molds from the factory and are the only people manufacturer them, but Ecklers/Zip/Mid America/Corvette central all retail them.
A bunch of people sell the covers (both the metal version and fiberglass ones) metal normally $2200 and up (though cranes had a deal on them for $1850 last year).
The stock factory style sidepipes are a bit restricitve, Stainlessworks make a larger internal diameter version for a better performing pipe.
The other alternative is to make your own, you can get 3" under the factory covers and 3-1/2" under the fiberglass ones.
cheers
Nick

Welcome Cam!
First off, Join Corvettes Unlimited in NSW. You need to be a member of a club.
You just missed the National Corvette convention held in Melbourne over Easter where there were over 200 Vettes in attendance including several Tripowers.
Check with Corvettes Unlimited cos sometimes members have this sort of thing for sale.
Our club (Vic Vettes) has a member who works in the parts department of a Major Chevy dealership in LA and he supplies our members with anything which is available through GM like resto parts. I even gets parts for my 68 Bonneville from him.
There are many Aussies already here so enjoy the addiction!

Re: Help on 68 BB Side Pipes - new to forum (RHD '68 L89)
Thanks for that.
I've been meaning to join a club. I saw the nationals in one of the latest magazines. I was actually overseas so i couldn't make it anyhow.
Do you have any information on how i join Vic Vettes?
I'm in NSW however the more info and contacts i can get for this vehicle the better.
I checked out the web sites provided. Thanks very much.
I'm just new to owning a car like this. I've always had much newer cars.
Thanks again
