HELP !!! Can't Stand the HEAT !!
I cannot figure out how to get the heat to turn off in my '74. Since we skipped spring here in the deep south, and it's already 90 deg, I certainly don't need my HEATER on. (My A/C doesn't work either, but that's the next project.) I thought it was the cable that actuates the "air control" door, so I checked both ends (at the control unit and on the air box) and the door works. I checked the vacuum lines that attach to the control head, and they all work. With the exception of the green vacuum line. Couldn't tell it did anything. I checked my Shop Manual (Chevrolet) and it shows 4 vacuum lines to the control unit, but mine has 6.
Is there a foam type seal for the air door to seal against, when the door is in the closed position? If there is, then it might be shot. If I have to pull the entire air box, I'll replace the heater core while I'm there.
Any help is appreciated. :mad

I installed an inline block valve in the heater hose line. This stops the hot coolant from circulating thru the heater core and toasting your toes. Just turn it back on in for the winter. Chas

I know how you feel Stylemaster I understand radiant heat but like you it feels like my blower and vents are on high flow. I can't seem to find where this air flow is coming from. I will be doing my carpet soon so I guess I will check all the vent and heater door seals then.

Re: HELP !!! Can't Stand the HEAT !! (checklst)
Quick fix. Not the right fix which is to fix your in-dash ventilation doors. However on my old 77 I had a twist valve going to the heater core that was on the passenger side and 1-twist and I was fine for the summer or long trips. I'd say spend the $$$ and gut your dash and fix those pesky ventilation doors.
