Default Now that my 82 is parked, how often do I need to drive it

199,952 miles. Got a company car, as posted earlier. How often do I need to drive it to keep it in good shape so I don't have to start over on all the repairs. Fuel stability additive a good idea? Leave windows up, down, cracked - no mice or cats where I live. Other ideas?

My first thought is "EVERY DAY". But I believe you want a more reasonable answer: Once a month at the very least. Sitting metal is not good.

Sorry to contradict, but that's the WORST thing you can do to a motor. Most engine wear occurs at start.

If the poster is really storing the car (not going to drive it at all) then read in the archives what us notherners do each fall.

If it's going to be taken out once in a while, then just make sure that battery stays charged.

Maybe you should get one to those battery disconnect *****. I have one on mine. I am sure it has saved me a few times. :)

I like to drive mine once a week. Just long enough to get everything warmed up and charge the battery. If you don't want to do that then you should look at longer term storage things that can be done. I hate when my tires get flat spots from sitting. I used to live in Chicago where I had to store the car each winter, now that I'm in Vegas I can drive it all year. Better for me and the car.

:iagree: I try and drive mine once a week also, more during the summer, I was told also that our cars hate to be left standing. When they are left, things start to go wrong. Still find myself analysing every little sound though

I plan on getting it out once a week - summertimes in Houston. In the fall and winter, probably more. Something like 25 - 50 miles at a time.

Put some fuel stabilizer in and ran the engine for a moment to circulate it.

Larry, I think your doing the right thing, use it every few weeks and run it around for an hour or so. Hot enough to burn off any water and residue. :yesnod:

a car used once a week is in service, not in any way stored.
i've not run my 67, 17 months without fuel stabilizer, and it ran fine.

A simpler thing to do is to leave the keys in it and let one of us drive it when you aren't......
Kidding aside,...driving it once a week for atleast a few miles will keep the battery charged and all the moving parts lubricated enough to prevent corrosion.
