ok say its got.... 45,000 miles and is mid 70s everything works well and looks good

personally i am changing anything i feel like ( wich will end up to be a lot of stuff) it has 64k orig miles but got a new 350 in january. i plan to redo the whole interior w/ fiberglass to match the outside, same paint scheme and everything. diamond steel plate floorpanels ( im thinking this may be a heat problem w/o the insulation and carpet so that may not happen) new gauges, seats , everything. hopefully a 1 piece front end, but that wil lbe a while because someone keyed my hood last year and now the whole front end is freshly painted. a 5 speed tranny would be nice, just doent feel like a sportscar w/ an auto tranny. oh man i could go on for hours. now all i have to do is get some money...........

If you have a low mileage "survivor", keep it original. Otherwise, it is your vette and you should build it to suit your preferences. The bottom line is that it is your car that was bought with your money!

When I bought mine, body/exterior was wonderful, engine fresh, frame sound and still is....but interior was shot, then of course everything else that moved was shot also, sooooo over the years the repairs/mods have taken their toll on it's 'stockness'...as it were...

Do whatever "turns your prop" for you and don't worry about resale or the like. These cars will be worth a fortune in the future so love it like a woman and drive it like you stole it.

I started wit ha very rough 72 LT1 car. Motor was not original but all the other acc. and trans and stuff was original. i went back to dead stock at first. Got the bug for more power. Now the motor has been completly done over cut the frame for a Tremec 5 speed redid the suspension with VB products. So now it is not stock. Still looks like a stock LT1 with the hood closed but I enjoy it this way. Do what you want to it and enjoy it.

I agree with Gordonm. Do it up your way. Drive it and enjoy it. That is exactly what I am doing to mine. I have installed the 5 speed in mine, put the 4 speed on the shelf. Aluminum heads on it now, stockers on the shelf. One of these days if I ever decide to, I can sell the stuff or put it back on for resale.

Well I voted for "depends on what you've got to start with"... personally, I feel that the rare or highly optioned models are best left original for value sake, but your plain jane, or like mine highest number made model year (76)
are the ones to play with, modify, customize, etc.... and unless you get crazy or tacky, won't hurt the value, and if done nice can dramatically increase the value ( to the right buyer ). In the end though, it is kinda rare to get all the money you invest in them back anyway, so its really up to you to build what "you" want. Me, I'm slowly customizing mine as I go. I already have an aftermarket (not correct) rear bumper, built up (not original) 350 4 bolt main truck engine, L-82 emblems and console (L-48 vette), currently making custom door panels and console covers, installing a 700R4 tranny soon, and I'm sure more will be on the way. I know my front bumper will be an issue soon as well, cause its badly busted up and covered up with a bra.
Have fun with whatever you do though, thats the important thing!!!

I'm trying to piece mone back together with as little stock parts as I can :) and if the stock parts can't be replaced they most certainly can be modified (frame, suspension, body)

Mine's all either OEM or NOS or reproduction except for the Kenwood radio / CD changer, and the Pertronix electronic points replacement. Oh, and the paint is base coat / clear coat, but it's the original color.

How can I NOT be for customizing ?

Well, truth be told, I'd like to find a survivor to keep some day soon,
and it sounds like you already have that. Maybe look around for a project
vette to make your own ... let someone looking for a survivor have yours.
