Ancient mystery of loose outside chrome mirrors solved!!!
Well, I think I have found the way to solve this issue for good. In the first pic, you can see the metal plate that was held in with two screws over the ball of the mirror arm, and the now broken white nylon washer that was between the plate and the ball. I replaced the nylon washer with a slightly thicker rubber washer that I found in the plunbing isle of Home Depot, all I had to do to the rubber washer was drill the same size hole through it as the nylon washer, 19/64" . In the second pic, you can see the finished product. to remove the glass,I soaked the miror in laquer thinner overnight, and then used a razor blade to pry the glass off. All I have left to do is glue the glass back in with silicon adhesive, and voila....a mirror that very stable.

Hi
Well done. Make sure you use special mirror silicone as ordinary one will possibly attack the mirror silver coating.
