Default OT: Saw a sad sight today...

Well, my buddy owns a transmission rebuild shop, but he takes on other jobs as well. He had a customer bring in an 81 Vette for some work. Needed new steering, some minor engine work, and whatnot. So he called me and asked me if I could come down to take a look at a few things. He said the steering was extremely sloppy and it acted like it wanted to switch lanes. So I go down and look at this car, and it's the nastiest, dirtiest Corvette I've ever laid eyes on. The paint is faded terribly, the interior stinks, the whole interior was redone with this brown tweed looking crap. I mean EVERYTHING. Door panels, dash, carpet, seats, the works. The seatbelts were converted to lap belts. I pop the hood, and there's oil and grease everywhere. Wires everywhere. This thing was truly disgusting. Underneath, it had all brand new steering, except for the power cylinder and control valve, both of which were the main problems in the steering system. I just asked myself, how could you let a CORVETTE go this bad? Who just lets a RUNNING CORVETTE sit and junk away like that? I don't know, it was just sad. Had to share with yall.

I guess some people just dont share our enthusiasm of Corvette, guy probably sees it as just another car to run into the ground and then scrap out. Sad but true. :(

On the other hand, it shows that vettes can be used as everday beaters and keep going with limited mainteance. I don't think the same could be said
for high dollar European sports cars.

If you go to any of the major shows like Bloomington or Carlisle, you'll see your fair share of just "unkept" or "neglected" Corvettes, but I guess it's that way with any car-they were brand new at one time :yesnod:

Ouch... I'd have to disagree there... I think that all C3's are desirable cars, and the later, slower C3's are raising in value, just because of the fact that earlier C3's (Pre 74) Are getting extremely expensive.

No Vette should ever be allowed to go to seed like that. There should be some law to remove the car from the owner. :mad
