Default Car won't Start in Park or Neutral....

The starter (twice in the past 3 days) won't energize when the car is in Park or Neutral. I have to turn the key to "start", move the shifter lever from Park all the way down and all the way back...then it "may" start. This has happened only since I installed a new A/C compressor & belt on Monday. I have noticed that the engine runs about 200 degrees with the A/C running, on a hot day, in traffic. Without the A/C running, the temp is around 180-190.... Is there ANY corrolation between the two???

Any help would be GREATLY apprecaited. :D

No, The starting problem is caused by the neutral safety switch, which is mounted to the shifter. The contacts may need to be cleaned.
The engine running hotter is because the added heat from the condenser is not being dissipated from the fan pulling enough air through the radiator. It may be that the fan clutch is weak from age.

Where is the neutral switch located?

Unscrew the shifter trim plate and lift it off, The shifter **** will unscrew from the shaft. The safety switch is screwed on to the side of teh shifter. The is a small pin that moves the switch mechanisium. Check to see if the pin moves the switch properly. If the pin is tite and does what it is suppose to then the contacts might be burnt. You might be able to take it apart and clean them or you can buy a new switch.
