Re: O/T Beer can chicken on the grill. (vetteweiser)
damn, this is in C3 too
ok, my understanding is you open a beer, and drink it. Take a chicken out, and make sure its thawed. Open a beer and drink it. Open another beer and shove it up the chickens azz. Open another beer, and drink it. Put pepper on the chicken, and place it, with the beer can lodged in its azz on the grill. Cook it for about an hour over medium hear. If it starts burning, drop the temp and drink another beer.
Total cooking time should be 6 to 10 beers. If you smoke, then a time check of 10 cigs should be about right.
Lemme know how this turns out :)

Hear you are and it tastes great.
1 (4-pound) whole chicken
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons of your favorite dry spice rub
1 can beer
Remove neck and giblets from chicken and discard. Rinse chicken inside and out, and pat dry with paper towels. Rub chicken lightly with oil then rub inside and out with salt, pepper and dry rub. Set aside.
Open beer can and take several gulps (make them big gulps so that the can is half full). Place beer can on a solid surface. Grabbing a chicken leg in each hand, plunk the bird cavity over the beer can. Transfer the bird-on-a-can to your grill and place in the center of the grate, balancing the bird on its 2 legs and the can like a tripod.
Cook the chicken over medium-high, indirect heat (i.e. no coals or burners on directly under the bird), with the grill cover on, for approximately 1 1/4 hours or until the internal temperature registers 165 degrees F in the breast area and 180 degrees F in the thigh, or until the thigh juice runs clear when stabbed with a sharp knife. Remove from grill and let rest for 10 minutes before carving.

Re: O/T Beer can chicken on the grill. (checklst)
It works best with 16 0z beers. Beleive it or not but the cheap beer works best. We use natural light. And to be mere specific it's called Drunk Chicken. When the chicken falls over it is done. Cook it over low heat. We use a big 55 gallon grill and put the coals on one side and the chickens on the other. Rub the chicken with butter and we use a cajun seasoning I can't remember the brand but its in a green can with a guy in a chefs hat on it. Sprinkle well and let it cook. The chicken will littuarly shake off the bone and it will be very moist. We cook them every year at the deer camp. Enjoy and have a few beers yourself the good ones.

My Dad cooks the drunken chicken on his Holland grill all the time. Try it you will like it, works best on a holland grill. "The only grill guaranteed not to flare up."

Seasonig EDDIEJ82 is refering to is Tony Chacere's.no cajun cook will be caught without it.you might also try Cajun Blast( http://www.cajuncrawfish.com). comes in a spray bottle and is excellent as a baste for everything, just spray it on everything you cook on the grill..can works better it you cut the top out,or poke more holes in it.i cook these all the time and they are great.do you have the stand for the chicken?(www.chickcan.com)

Wal-mart carries them here in louisiana.but if not available in ohio, got to the chickcan website and look at the pictures. if you can work on your C3, you can come up with a workable design
you might also add about a 1/3 can of italian dressing with the beer. :)

Beer butt chicken is definitely the way to go! A buddy of mine in Germany
cooked about 10 on two seperate grills during a massive Jimmy Buffet-
themed party. All the suggestions are spot-on, but for a Maryland flare,
try rubbing down the bird with some Old Bay.....Verrrry nice! :flag
