Curious findings while researching my 1970 Coupe
My 1970 has no indication it ever had AIR equipment on it. No smog pump, no fittings on the exhaust manifold, nada.
However, the other night I pulled the carburetor off to do a little tweaking. The part number on it is 70 40 5 02
According to some documentation I found on this here internet:
The 70 is for pre-1975 Rochester
The 40 is for 1970
The 5 indicates California or High-Altitude
The 0 indicates Chevrolet
The 2 (even number) indicates Automatic Tranny
Furthermore, this jets in the carb ar marked 75 and the primary metering rods are marked 45B
Any one you historians know if California cars would have "not" been equipped with AIR?

I have a base car and mine had no smog pump or provisions for an air pump either.

Interstingly enough, I bought this car in Georgia...a long way from California.

As SteelCitiesLT1 said, no pump except for LT-1, however, non A.I.R (pump)engines did have some smog equipment.
It was TCS (Transmission Controlled Spark). There was no vacuum advance until the transmission was shifted into a higher gear.
