Default MANIFOLD EXHAUST LEAK ?

I've developed an exhaust leak at the rear of the passenger side manifold where it bolts into the head. The leak is not bad, "ticks" for less than a minute while the car warms up but I know it will only get worse over time.

Hopefully an easy fix; loose bolt vs a gasket problem.

Should I torque the bolts when the car is hot or cold or does it matter?

Do 82's have A.I.R pumps? If so, check that first. The tubes sometimes break loose from the manifold.

Anyone else? :lurk:

Torque it when it is cold - and don't wait too long as once it starts, it will get worse!

Chevrolet didnt use a gasket between the manifold and the head, I had a similar problem several years ago and put a gasket (steel) Victor I think only to have it blow out again in fairly short order. After two tries and failures I pulled the manifold and had a machine shop mill the flange straight reinstalled it and never had a problem again. This was on a 74 car I would guess the 82's didnt use gaskets either. Hopefully your problem will just be to tighten the bolts.

i have stop leaks by flat filing, and a thin coat of copper coat permatex, it's
worked on several, didn't have to drop exhaust to try
