Default Stainless Hooker sidemount Headers & Pipes- Opinions?

Does anybody have Stainless Hooker Sidemount headers yet?
If so what are your opinions?
I have seen them mentioned in quite a few threads, even part numbers quoted(although I can't find them anywhere) :banghead:

cheers

I guess nobody has them yet... No problems, I shall wait for a while and ask again.
My exhaust is shot but I'm in the process of a full suspension/ t-arm upgrade and not driving My vette at the moment, so time isn't an issue. Still trying to decide between chambered and hooker sidepipes anyway.
I don't want to fork out big $$$ for hooker sidepipes if they don't last. I thought Stainless was the answer.
I noticed in another thread "Summerfun" asked for and ordered Stainless, thought he had stainless till they started peeling all over
Thank's to the forum I shouldn't have the same problem. Hopefully!!! :skep: :skep:

Cheers

Mick

The side tubes are still back-ordered. I have the headers, though, and they're beautiful. I've also received the muffler inserts and I may not use them--thry're pretty heavy. And, while they have a 4" O.D. to fit in the tubes, the diameter of the pipe through which the exhaust flows is only about 1 1/2" or so. This dimension is made even smaller by the directional, 3/8" louvers poking up inside.

As for the stainless pipes "peeling," all I can say is that the person who said this (and I have read that thread) must be mistaken about having stainless. My bet is that he's got chrome instead. Stainless doesn't peel.

  Glad to hear that they are available. Who did you go through to purchase them? Do they come with everything necessary to install? And if it's not too much to ask, what are they worth?
Also if the tubes are back ordered- I see some of the guys are looking at stainless truck exhausts, same diameter and quite cheap too. Just a thought if you want to put them on soon and the wait is too long.
Thank's for the info.
cheers

I ordered directly through Hooker. I've seen the truck stacks, but I don't want to get into the business of welding mounting tabs on them. And the turnouts on the truck stacks look a little too long.

The mounting hardware and instructions, I believe, come in the box with the side tubes. Other than that you're on your own as far as header gaskets and bolts.

Thank's again for the info. Sorry to bother you, but it seems you are the only member with SS Hookers at the moment and I have too many questions :D
Did Hooker give you a discount for being a forum member?
How long is the wait on the side tubes?
How hard is it to organize a group discount?
Cheers

I just bought a set of hooker stainless side tubes from summit.
part # HOK-50735-3HKR
$411, but they were the last ones in stock. sorry.

I also have JCL spiral turbo baffles ariving today. should be much better than my old inserts.

Did Hooker give you a discount for being a forum member?
No--It didn't come up.

How long is the wait on the side tubes?
Personally I have been waiting since early March.

How hard is it to organize a group discount?
Don't know--never done it. Maybe Hooker would get on board if you could get a suitable number of Forum members to commit to a purchase. What that number would be I have no idea.

Cheers

Mick,
Your best bet will be to go with Hooker, unless :
1)You don't mind fooling around a bit
2)You want to save some money
3)You are pi%$# off with Hooker....like me

My setup is not chrome, but Metallic Ceramic Thermal Barrier Coating....and they peel after a year (you would not think for $1000+)
I did ask for SS when I bought them and believed I had SS.....no way to know the difference if you are not used to metals

I did order a 7,5 ft length of 304SS and will weld tabs onto them by copying
my current setup after I bend them a bit on a friends pipe bending machine.

Auto-Jet did say that they could have it bent for me if I wanted!

I will let all know how my project turns out in about 2-3 weeks.

Point is, go with Hooker if you don't want the hassle of picking.
If you like tinkering around, you could save a bit of money my way.

If Hooker SS side pipes are $411, how much are the Headers themselves in SS?

Anyone know if they are available for BBs yet?

I have the ceramic coated ones now and they are not peeling, but they will eventually. I would order the SS ones tomorrow if I knew they were available.

Also, you guys please do NOT fool around with the Hooker glasspack inserts. I don't care if you have a mild SB. They are crap. As mentioned, they offer a very, very small I.D. and accordingly they flow like crap. My BB would barely spin past 4000rpm with those stupid things in there.

You've spent all this $$, get the JCL's and be done. I did and never looked back. :D

Thank's for all the good info guys.
I will contact hooker to see what sort of a deal I can organize for forum members. Might be cheaper to go with summit during a discount period??
I will also ask about SB/BB availability and keep you informed. I may get the brush off if they are on back order and unable to keep up with demand.
cheers

Thanks for the link. I've seen those before.

However, I want the Hooker headers in SS. My current Hookers offer outstanding performance. An OEM type manifold/sidepipe config (which is what the Stainlessworks stuff looks like) might last a long time, but they will drastically hinder the performance of my built big-block.
