First, determine where the play is. It could be from the steering coupler, the tie rods, the idler arm, the power steering bushings, or the steering gear box. Parts normally fail in that order. Check those first before adjusting the gear box.

Go to http://www.corvettefaq.com go to steering where Jim Shea has a ton of info.
Ageed find out where the play is before turning to the box.

Re: Steering Adjustment.....? (Missileman)
I had no idea there were so many things that could affect the play in my steering. I just had a new coulper put on about a month ago. As far as the tie rods and idler arm goes everything checks out OK. But I'm not so sure how to check the bushings, where they are located exactly, etc.
I'll check out that link that "GTR" sent.

Had about 1.5 inches of play in my steering before I put the car away last Fall. Turned out the steering control valve was shot. Replaced this in April and with a minor adjustment on the steering box, everything ok.
