Default Cutting the front springs?

I would really like to lower the front end about 2''. I've heard that cutting the coils is the fastest and cheapest way to do it. I was wondering if anyone has done it and if they could give some tips. I guess what im really trying to ask is if it's easy to do! Thanks!

2" drop is a lot to drop. You will probably end up with clearance problems if it is going to be a street driven vette. You can use a cut off saw, hack saw if you are strong or evn a torch. If you use a torch put the spring in a bucket off water to keep the heat down. I wouldn't use the torch method but I have heard of people doing it this way. I would start by cutting a half coil at a time and reinstall to check height. Then repeat until you get a height you like. Remember when you cut the springs your ride will get rougher.

No torch! Even in water there will be some of it adversely affected by the heat. As long as you have a new, sharp blade, a hacksaw will be very easy. A dull blade took me 3 hours (dumb I know, didn't have any way to get to the store once I'd started) but when I did the other side with a sharp one, it took 10-15 minutes. A cutoff wheel or something would be ideal also. If I were you, I'd try cutting one full coil first for that amount of drop, but be VERY certain you want it, as you can't uncut! And have a backup plan if it decides to drop more than you expected.

If you do a quick search in the archives for "springs" you will find plenty of useful info on this topic.

A 4" cutoff wheel in a suitable die grinder will go through the spring material like a hot knife through butter. Almost. :yesnod: And the heat caused by the froction of cutting is very localized unlike using a torch.

The bottom, where the coil spacing is larger.

Cali -

How much did you cut your coilovers, and how much drop did it give you?

Thanks
