ZZ4 Motor installation in a '70 4 speed convertible
I'm in the process of installing a ZZ4 engine in a '70 4 speed convertible. Has anyone done this before? It looks like we can use a Z06 flywheel if we remachine the two bolt holes by the pin hole. Pressure plate looks fine. Clutch has to be replaced by a coarse splined 12" clutch.
Any thoughts?

I put a zz4 into my 71 coupe, and I used a flywheel GM sold.
this is the flywheel I used GM# 10105832 http://www.paceparts.com/product.asp?0=287&1=289&3=247

Re: ZZ4 Motor installation in a '70 4 speed convertible (O.C.Barry)
I did the ZZ4 installation in my 69 Coupe. I had to purchase the flywheel from GM. I dont remember the pn. I had the 355hp model. I had to work with the water pump too. It didnt quite fit, so I had to do some grinding. Other than that, it was pretty easy. I really like the ZZ4.

Thanks for the info.
So do I understand correctly that with the GM flywhell 10105832, I can use the old style 11" clutch and pressure plate?

Do a search for lightweight flywheels that recently ran. It seems that a light weight FW can give you some additional performance.

Do you know the part number of the long 1-3/8 ball stud?
Forgive my ignorance, but what is a 'center force' clutch assembly? Is that a brand name? I prefer to stick with the stock GM parts, I drive my Vettes very gently. Now my '38 Cigarette Top Gun, that's another story; 1500 HP supercharged and it ROLLS!
Thanks, Barry

That GM flywheel will use old style clutches. Just make sure when you order a clutch you have the spline count on the input shaft correct. I had a centerforce clutch on my car before, but changed to a Hayes street/strip clutch when I install the zz4 and it works great.

So do I need to change the pivot ball if I use the stock old style clutch and pressure plate?
Thanks, Barry

No - but get a new ball stud and fork......I'd rather change out the fork now then wait until one of the old tired fingers breaks 2000 miles after you get everthing going.
