need exhaust advice....What should I go with?
it's a 71 with a 355, th400 auto, edelbrock carb and intake, flathead pistons, and some other goodies. Unfortunatley I also have the stock headers. The mufflers are flowmasters. What should I do to get the most power and the best sounds as far as exhaust? People have been telling me that it makes all of the distance in the world. :chevy

How much power are you putting out?
Up to 400, I believe 2 1/4" will get the job done, but nothing really wrong with 2 1/2".
I'm only putting out 230 HP and 300 lb./ft. to the wheels. I have 2 1/2" (because one day I will upgrade the engine) with an H-pipe behind the tranny (easiest place to fit it) and FlowMaster Deltaflow 50 series. Personally, I like the sound although it's not quite as loud as I would like. I have also installed dual cutouts with electric motors so that I can open up the exhaust anytime that I want to hear the lovely sound. FlowMaster's Deltaflow series mufflers do not produce as much resonance inside the car as their normal mufflers.

not sure on the power I am running. Unfortunatly with the stock Headers and a very low stahl> it should be running around 300 with the engine mods though.

The rams horn manifolds that are on our cars are among the best stock manifolds that you can get. It will depend on how badly you feel the need to go fast. A header exhaust will leave more heat under the hood and require you to check the gaskets and bolt torque from time to time.
Whichever way that you go I would recommend a 2 1/2 inch true dual exhaust with a crossover pipe.

Shortie headers, 2 1/2 inch true dual pipes, flowmaster delta flow 40's here, and I love it.
