Default 1968 vin # problem

I've had a 68 coupe for about 20yrs that I believe is a # correct 427/435hp although I've never checked it out till now.
I got a NCRS book and they say a 67 in the serial # is a convertible and a 37 in the serial # is a COUPE.
WHAT IS CORRECT ?? I HAVE A COUPE AND THE VIN# STARTS WITH 194678S - WHAT GIVES.
Thanks in advance

This is correct. There is a very, very remote chance it came from the factory this way, but it'd have to be a very original car with the same VIN on the motor, frame and windshield post. The VIN tag also could have been illegally switched from a stolen or wrecked car. There could be some different scenarios here.

I've known where the car has been for 28yrs so there is the 1st 8yrs that I don't know about the car but I can't imagine some would put a different vin# ect. back then as the car would not have been worth it at the time.
I did look at the # on the top left rear of the engine block and the were 3935439 which as I understand just means it's a 427 block.
I just got these books so will be looking closer at things just to see what I actually have as I plan on selling the car.
I just can't keep it up as it is stored in Seattle and I spend most my time in Alaska

I would be very curious to see the car. Do you know that the convertible vin is on the windshield pillar? You should check to see if the vin derivative is on the engine pad. And here is a really dumb question..... are you sure it is a coupe, and not a vert with a matching hardtop? :) :D

Boy has this been rough trying to sign in. I tried for about a 1/2hr monday am then had to leave town and just got back last night. Anyway I'm in Now.
PRND21-
It is a coupe w/t-tops and I have I think most of the rack that holds the t-tops for the car, not sure if it's all there. My brother bought a new conv early in the model year and he bought the hardtop only, anyway he said that he had wanted a coupe but they were not available initially and just a guess but he said they may have put out a few coupes with the convert #.
ANYONE KNOW ??
I'm not near the car so can't check vin# location But I Think it ran up the window pillar, not sure tho.
I did not know where all the # were on the car so just have been able to check the serial # and the block # on the top rear left cast near the bell housing which told me it is a 427 block.
I do have a web site and it is- http://jerrysweb.20megsfree.com
http://jerrysweb.20megsfree.com/
It has pics of the car. Beware of pop ups
Now that I have the NCRS books I can check # when I'm in Seattle as I did not now where the # were before.
