Default Adding head rests to 68 seats

Is it possible to add head rests to 68/69 seats that didnt originally have them? I have put aftermarket seats in my vette, but I kinda want the originals back, and I think a head rest is just the thing to convince me to.

Yuk. I can buy some seats with them already off ebay for that price..!!

But I guess my question really is, what attaches head rests to the seat? Are they adjustable, or fixed? If I feel of the top of my seats, I can feel a hard **** on both sides about 4" from the edge. Is this the provision for the optional headrest?

Ok, I couldnt resist, so I cut the seat open (just a little). The two lumps were screws going into the seat frame. The looked like they were holding a bracket which either connected the two side frames of the seat together, or maybe just added rigidity. BUT, it does look like where a headrest would bolt...

The seat backs are different for the headrest seats. There is an additional set of brackets welded in to the backs that the headrests slip in to. You may be lucky and run accross just a set of seat backs on ebay but I think your best bet would just be to find a set of '68 headrest seats or '69 seats and recover them with the '68 basket weave material. The head rests by themselves are somewhat difficult to find. The late '68 and '69 seats are almost identical in construction except for the seat coverings and the fact that ALL '69 seats had headrests.

THANKS! Thats exactly the info I needed. So now I just need to decide if I want to spring for the head rest seats, or just spend my cash on some cool aftermarket ones (c 4-c 5, or something).....hmmmmm

How 'bout these? C4 sport seats in great shape. Better grab 'em quick though, because I don't thing you're going to find a better price. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=821155

My 68 has them. I recovered the entire seats awile back. The 68 headrest, has no release *****, etc . You just pull on the headrest itself, and adjust how high/low you want them

Going very well, thanks. My throw out (release bearing) is about to go. Im trying to find a place where I can get some lift time. I cant jack it up high enough ( tried it this weekend) with floor jacks

The bracket you are looking for may be similar to the 1967 optional setup. I am not sure. It is welded in to the frame.

Paul,
That looks very similar to the head rest latch set up for the '68-'69. What does the post on the head rest look like? Perhaps they can be interchanged.

Hi

I asked this very same question a while back about the 67 receptacle and the answer if it would fit my 68 seat was no.
Strange, for C2, there is a aftermarket receptacle available, but nothing for 68-69.
I already bought a couple of 69 headrests that need recovering. I now have to fiddle a way to attach them to the 68 seat.
I do not want to loose the 68 only type seat back with the lower release ****.
If you find the solution, pls let me know.

Thanks. Gunther
