Gas prices gone sky high ! when is enough a enough.
How long will the price of gas stay high, or is it up there to stay?

I would say that with the various military/political actions taking place around the world and the increasing industrialization of China and its energy needs, the prices are here to stay.

I will be very surprised if gas prices come down much. Demand is increasing, supply is not. Most of us could cut our gas bill by 20% - 30% maybe even 50% depending on what you are driving now and what you would be willing to drive. Consumers have just not been buying very fuel efficient cars.

Does that mean the end of all V8 engines or that the majority of toyota's will explode from where they are at? People are still buying Hummer H2's and the SUV market is still very strong.

My commuter is a like new 91Taurus with 59K on it and it gets 30 mpg. I just put new struts, rotors, drums, and pads on this weekend because of the freakin gas prices. Gotta keep that baby in tip top shape.

When China stops using oil, the U.S. builds 20 new refineries, and the price of a barrel of crude drops below $30, gas should get back to $1.39 per gallon.
See you in WildWood, NJ  I'm bring the '74-at least with the L-48 & 3.08 gears, it does about 22mpg on the highway(as long as I coast DOWN the mountains of Pa :lolg: ).

It is interesting that for the first time Hummer is offering real incentives to buy now, seen it all before with the oil crisis's of the 70's. Each time new technology came along to increase fuel efficiency and later performance was added into the mix. The new hybrids are an interesting alternative. Presently we are @ $3.75/US gallon for 91, $3.95 for 94. Won't alter my vette driving at all, and the Explorer gets about 32 hwy anyway so no big deal. On the positive side the 93 Probe (60K mile) that I have had sitting for the last year is actually going up slightly in value and will get around to selling it this month.

I saw on TV that the US hasn't built a new refineries in 30 years and China is growing in leaps and bounds. I suppose now is the time drill in antarctica where reserves are abundent, or so the oil compies say?

The newest oil refinery is a Marathon refinery in Garyville, La. It was built in 1974. The Marathon refinery I work at in Canton, Ohio was built in 1924.
With all the "EPA" and governmental red tape, I doubt you'll ever see a new refinery built in this country. It's this "not in my backyard" syndrome, plus what I just mentioned and the costs are prohibitive. Oil refineries are going the way of the steel mills in this country. They're disappearing and some day most if not all our gas and oil products will be "imported" and much more expensive than it is now. Remember, you read it here first, film at 11.

Ths almost belongs in OT/ POL.
Edit: No offense but do you really think Bush runs OPEC? OPEC may change prices to pressure the public to conform to their political goals which bottom line is profit. OPEC could care less whose in office as long as that person doesn't trim their profit margin.

Just be glad there's gas to buy and virtually unlimited. You (well at least I don't) don't want to go thru the oil embargo's & shortages of the '70s. :nonod: Truely a nightmare.

Gas will be high until we get rid of Gerorge W Bush.
That's plainly assinine. There is no confirmed correlation BETWEEN the current administration and gas prices although the press would say otherwise. Don't believe the hipe.

What about Cheny adding to the reserves while oil prices are high driving them higher which I think he got caught at twice! Then stopped immediately when he was busted. I'm still wondering what happened to Opec's target price of $25 a barrel

opecs out for increased $$$$ and if you really believe that the Dumocrats will lower prices you are dreaming, their canidate wants to INCREASE the gas TAX so we will use less, who does that hurt, the working man not the rich like Kerry...You chose you poison and then you live with it. by the way we only get something like 12% of our oil from Saudi, so go figure, all smoke and mirrors about profits and politics :mad
