Go to http://www.tirerack.com
Use their 'shop by size' calculator to get the measurements of your original tires.
Then go to 16" tires and look for the size that's closest to those measurements. It will give you an idea of what you are looking for.
Someone on the forum will also tell you soon enough what they have used successfully without spacers.

its a swedish site but easy too use
just put in what tire size you have in the upper field
and then the tire you are thinking about in the lower.
the push the bigger button below
then you gonna see if it fits ore else it recomends a different size.
