Anyone use these? Do they work?

I encouraged the purchaser at work to get the " Drill Doctor, Model 750" . This model sharpens drills to 3/4 (.750) in diameter.( I'm a machinist)

It works very well resharpening most drill bits. It doesn't do a good job on drill bits with a thick web. The sharpening geometry is not perfect ( on the thick web drills) and the drills cut .005 to .015 oversize.

They purchased this from http://www.mscdirect.com for about $150. Drill Doctor also makes a 250 and 500 model also.

I do recommend this sharpener. It's easy to use and does a good job on most drills.

The model 500 & 750 do both 118* & 135* drills, will grind split points and will also sharpen masonry drills.

I haven't seen too many that work all that well, but I haven't used that one either. I was taught the first week in Trade school (13 years old)to sharpen bits by hand on a bench grinder. It's not that hard and you will not need anything fancy to get it done other then a bench grinder.

I sharpen mine on a bench grinder, takes some practice but I can sharpen them very quickly, saves the money of those electric things, which IMO don't work worth a damn.

My drill Doctor works real good. I got it off ebay for about 40 bucks and have sharpened every bit I have. They all are working like new.

I don't know what model I have but it was about $500 and it sits in the cupboard. While it does a great job it takes too long.
I am a fan of just using the bench grindler. Alot faster and does an adequate job.

I have the drill doctor 250, it works great, and I leave it out on the workbench so if I grab a dull bit it takes 30 seconds to sharpen it like new. Joe
